Our Craft
Every piece that leaves this studio has passed through the same unhurried process — one that begins long before the resin is poured and continues until the work is exactly what it needs to be. This is how we work.
The Materials
THE FLOWERS
Flowers are the heart of the studio’s work. Whether they come from a wedding bouquet, a memorial arrangement, or are sourced directly by the studio for a purely art-driven commission, they are handled with the same care from the moment they arrive. Every species behaves differently in drying and in resin — learning how to work with that behavior, rather than against it, is one of the things that makes this work distinct.
THE RESIN
We use the clearest professional-grade resin currently available, selected for its optical clarity, UV resistance, and anti-yellowing properties. Different resin formulations are used for different applications — not all resin is suited for all work, and we test continuously to ensure we’re using the best possible material for every commission.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Beyond flowers and resin, the studio works with wood, metal, and a wide range of collected or personal objects. Found materials, keepsakes, paper products, and mixed media are all welcome in a commission — the more specific the material, the more personal the result.
The Process
Below is the studio’s commission process from first contact to final delivery. Every commission follows this sequence.
01 Inquiry & Consultation
Begin by submitting an inquiry through the contact page. We’ll follow up to discuss your project, confirm availability, and determine whether the commission is a good fit. Availability is limited — reaching out early is always recommended, especially for weddings.
02 Investment Guide & Selections
We’ll send you our Investment Guide with detailed information on available formats, pricing, and timelines. You’ll confirm your selections before we receive your flowers, as different items require different drying methods. The sooner your selections are confirmed, the better the outcome for your piece.
03 Contract & Deposit
A signed commission agreement and a 50% deposit are required to secure your date. The remaining balance is due when your flowers are received. The studio’s current minimum commission investment is $900.
04 Drop-Off or Shipping
We’ll arrange a curbside drop-off appointment at the studio in New Orleans, or provide shipping instructions if you’re outside the area. Flowers should arrive as quickly as possible after your event to ensure the best condition for preservation. We’ll give you detailed care instructions in advance.
05 Drying
When your flowers arrive, we document their condition and begin the drying process immediately. Drying method varies depending on your selected items and the species involved. Your flowers are kept safely in the drying process until we’re ready to begin the design phase. This stage typically takes several weeks.
06 Design Guide Review
While your flowers are drying, we’ll send you the studio’s Design Guide — a detailed overview of available layouts, background colors, and resin techniques. This is the time to think through your preferences so that when we’re ready to design, the conversation moves quickly.
07 Material Preview
When your flowers have finished drying, we’ll photograph them and send you a Material Preview — images of your flowers exactly as they look now, before any design decisions are made. This is your opportunity to see the dried materials, ask questions, and give feedback. Because the flowers are at their best immediately after drying, we ask for a response within 48 hours so we can move forward while the materials are in peak condition.
08 Design Approval
Based on your preferences and the dried flowers, we’ll develop your design and send it for approval before any resin is poured. We offer an initial design and up to two revisions. Once approved in writing, the commission moves into production.
09 Resin Production
Once the design is approved, we begin pouring. Depending on the piece, this involves multiple layers, cure cycles, and stages of work. After the final layer is cured, the piece is demolded and moves into sanding, polishing, and finishing. This stage takes several weeks at minimum and cannot be rushed without compromising quality.
10 Completion & Delivery
When your piece is complete, we’ll prepare it for shipping. You’ll receive care instructions with your finished work. Current average turnaround from flower receipt to completion is approximately eleven months, though this varies by commission complexity and studio capacity. We do not guarantee completion dates.
A note on natural variation.
These are handmade works using natural materials. Flowers change during drying — colors shift, textures transform, and some blooms surprise us in ways we couldn’t predict. Resin, too, has a life of its own: minor bubbles, fine layer lines, and small imperfections are part of the handmade process, not defects. We craft every piece to the highest standard humanly possible, and we believe there is genuine beauty in the evidence of that work.
If you have questions about what to expect from your specific flowers, please ask. We’ll always give you an honest answer.
